The first ever race for Sunbeams in Falmouth was organised by Flushing Sailing Club on Saturday 31st May 1924, starting at 1410. Six boats took part. The race lasted some two and a half hours. The anniversary is commemorated by a race for the Silver Sunbeam Trophy (a silver model of a Sunbeam), which traditionally takes place on the Saturday nearest to 31st May.
2021 racing
Racing at FSC takes place on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons throughout the season. For many years the class has not raced at the weekend (except for the Silver Sunbeam), sailors appearing to prefer the evening format.
